Distinguished Hip Hop group Outkast — Big Boi and André 3000 — and superb producers The Neptunes — Pharrell Williams and Chad Hugo — scored a nomination for the 2020 Songwriters Hall of Fame.
All though in recent years both duos have been some what dormant in Hip Hop music, their contributions to Hip Hop could put them amongst the inductees for next year’s ceremony.
Outkast was put in the Performing Songwriters category alongside the Isley Brothers and Mariah Carey. The Neptunes were put in the Songwriter category alongside of Motown’s William “Mickey” Stevenson. The induction ceremony has been scheduled for June 11, 2020.
If both duos became inductees, they would join Hip Hop luminaries JAY-Z, Jermaine Dupri, Dallas Austin and Missy Elliott.
The past few years, both groups have experienced a revitalization within Hip Hop and mainstream culture. While producing for the likes of The Carters, Ariana Grande and Nas, The Neptunes released their latest N.E.R.D. album No One Really Ever Dies in 2017
The Neptunes recently saw the worldwide release of Kelis’s 2001 album Wanderland while being sampled by rising rapper Rubi Rose.
Outkast has performed sporadically over the years since releasing 2005’s Idlewild. The duo recently made headlines again due to an Atlanta mural paying homage to their legacy
